Sustainability

We’re serious about sustainability and we’re working hard to realise our ambition to become the most sustainable gin brand on the planet.

We make it our business to support companies and organisations that that are looking ahead and striving to be a better, positive force and give something back to the community – whether that be animal welfare, conservation projects, protecting the environment or pushing the boundaries when it comes to sustainability.

Our Progress to date

  • We’re proud to be a member of the ethical and environmental platform 1% for the Planet®, bringing together a global network of businesses, individuals and non-profit organisations tackling our planet’s most pressing environmental issues.
  • 1% for the Planet® was founded to prevent greenwashing, certify reputable giving and provide accountability. The 1% for the Planet® certification is given to businesses and individuals that meet this high-bar commitment.
  • 1% of all the revenue generated by the Langley’s brand is donated to this platform, irrespective of business performance.
  • We have also teamed up with Panthera®, the only organisation in the world that is devoted exclusively to the conservation of the world’s 40 wild cat species and their ecosystems.
  • Utilizing the expertise of the world’s premier cat biologists, Panthera develops and implements global strategies for the seven species of big cats: cheetahs, leopards, jaguars, lions, pumas (also known as mountain lions or cougars), snow leopards and tigers.
  • Panthera® also studies and protects the world’s most threatened species of small cats through our Small Cats Program.
  • Why Panthera®? Old Tom as a style of gin came to prominence way back in 18th century England during the times now referred to as the ‘gin craze’ subsequent period of prohibition. The story of how this gin style came to be links closely to the black tom cat, hence the name Old Tom.
For every bottle of Langley’s Old Tom sold anywhere in the world, we donate $0.50 per bottle to Panthera®.
  • The Langley’s bottle is made from 60% PCR (post-consumer recycled glass) and on our journey to becoming the most sustainable yet accessible gin brand on the market we’re pushing our supplier to improve this further
  • All Langley’s labels are made from 100% recycled paper
  • The outer cases of Langley’s are also made from 100% recycled cardboard and are from a FSC® certified source

Our vision for the future

  • By the end of 2022, we’re aiming to achieve B-Corp status as we work to demonstrate our commitment to balancing purpose and profit, joining a global community of leaders using their business as a force for good.
  • We’ve also signed up for the BCorp NetZero 2030 programme. We have committed to a significant carbon reduction leading to a net zero future by 2030 – part of the most accelerated climate action effort by a constituency of businesses in the world.
  • We are one of the 7000 companies in the UK to be a Living Wage Employer. We believe our staff deserve a wage that meets their everyday needs based on the cost of living, not just the government minimum.
Our pledge ongoing
We’re on a mission to become the most sustainable, trusted and accessible gin on the market – by that we mean that our production methods, raw materials, bottling and packaging are the most eco-efficient they can be, and our gins are positioned at a price which appeals to the mass market, enabling everybody to make an environmentally conscious buying decision.
